William Mitchell Law Students

First-year grades are important -- very important. Your 1L grades at William Mitchell College of Law will not only determine your eligibility for law review and other honors, but will dictate what job opportunities are available when you graduate. This is because the most selective legal employers recruit law students at the beginning of their second year, and they often will only interview law students who finished at the top of their 1L class. Given the staggering cost of a legal education, and a highly competitive legal hiring market, adopting a trial-and-error approach as a 1L is a flawed strategy. Learn why preparing for the challenges you will face during your first year of law school can help protect the substantial investment you are about to make in your legal education.

What William Mitchell College of Law Students Say

More than 99% of our surveyed customers have said Law Preview met or exceeded their expectations:

I know that the skills Law Preview taught me made my first semester of law school successful and manageable. As you are well aware, law school is a unique and stressful environment, a mystery to those who have not experienced it. Law Preview demystified it for me. As a result, I knew how much time I should spend studying and when, what I should focus on, and how I should balance my classwork with other obligations. I did not have to waste precious hours acquiring this knowledge by trial and error. Additionally, Law Preview's engaging professors introduced me to the substantive material I would encounter in my courses and made me excited about what I would learn in law school. Through its courses Law Preview gives incoming law students the tools they need to succeed in their first year and beyond.

Law Preview gave me the ultimate 'heads up' that I needed for law school. Don and all of the distinguished Professors tell you what nobody else will. During orientation and for several weeks after the semester began, it seemed everyone was running around without much of a clue of what was going on. Because of Law Preview, I already knew what I needed to do in order to focus solely on the important aspects of my courses. Law Preview pays off through every aspect of the first semester, and even beyond. I had my outlines complete by the time others were just learning how to get the most out of briefing a case. A small number of the students in my section even began to withdraw from classes during this time. Law Preview emphasizes methods that will help you stick through attrition. After the exams, many of the students were very worried about the grades they received. This was clearly the first time the others encountered receiving what they considered such low grades. Law Preview discusses this, so I was already prepared. . . . Law Preview clearly gives you the tools needed to cut through the confusion. They get down to brass tacks by clearly illustrating what we did and did not need to worry about.

Law Preview gave me a great preview of what to expect in law school. But more importantly, it gave me a plan. One thing I've noticed out of the top students in my class is that we all seem to have a plan of studying, breifing, outlining, etc. Law preview gave me that plan and told me what I needed to do if I wanted to succeed in law school. I had a hard time believing that it would take almost 12 hours a day, 7 days a week...but I really did spend that much time. If I did not take the Law Preview course, I would have started law school not knowing how to brief a case and not knowing how to formulate an exam answer. Bottom line...there is no way that I would be in the top 10% of my class if I hadn't taken Law Preview.
