Increasing diversity in the legal profession is a long-standing and important priority, not only for Boehringer Ingelheim but also for the entire legal community. Many groups, including the Leadership Council on Legal Diversity (LCLD) and the Minority Corporate Counsel Association (MCCA) -- two organizations Boehringer Ingelheim actively supports -- work tirelessly to create a more diverse legal profession. Boehringer Ingelheim has also developed its own initiatives, including partnering with leading law firms and sponsoring diversity scholarship programs at top law schools, to further enhance diversity in the legal profession.
Boehringer Ingelheim understands that increasing the number of diverse law students is not enough to build a bigger pipeline; diverse students must also excel academically in law school in order to become the legal profession's next generation of leaders. Therefore, Boehringer Ingelheim funds Law Preview's National Diversity Scholarship Fund to allow diverse law students to attend the Law Preview program -- an initiative that expands upon our other pipeline efforts by providing scholarship recipients with a week long law school prep course taught by some of the country's leading law professors. Boehringer Ingelheim is proud to provide this solid foundation upon which our scholarship recipients can begin their legal studies.
National Diversity Scholarship Fund (NDSF) Criteria
To be eligible for a NDSF Scholarship, applicants must be: (i) a member of a historically underrepresented group in the legal profession; (ii) a member of the LGBT community; or (iii) first in their immediate family (excluding siblings) to attend college. Applicants must also be enrolled to begin classes at a NDSF-sponsored law school in the fall.
If chosen, NDSF-sponsored students agree to reply to periodic surveys that confidentially track their academic progress, matriculation/graduation status, bar exam results and employment opportunities.
If you meet the application criteria, complete the online application before May 1. The NDSF Selection Committee will evaluate all applications and notify scholarship recipients on a rolling basis starting May 20.
Boehringer Ingelheim is a global group of companies embracing many cultures and diverse societies. Our legal team knows that in order for the profession to prosper, we must actively aid organizations that promote diversity. When our company investigated ways to truly make a difference in the lives of diverse law students before they begin the 1L year, we discovered Law Preview. We are proud to assist the National Diversity Scholarship Fund and hope that more of our corporate colleagues join us in supporting this critical section of diversity pipeline.
