I attended the Law Preview session in Austin. I was just writing to let you know how I did the first semester. I attend the University of Houston Law Center, and I received all A's my first semester and am ranked #1 out of 266 students. Law Preview gave me the right mindset entering into law school, and I feel the class was a big part of my success. Not only did it help me succeed grades wise, but the class also gave me a sense of excitement to attend U of H, as there were 3 professors from the school who lectured at Law Preview, and I enjoyed all three!

—Shaun C., University of Houston Law Center, Class of 2013

I felt more prepared because I knew what to expect. I think the class made me feel more confident in my ability to meet the challenges of law school. I would definitely recommend the class to any incoming law student!

[Law Schools: All] [Graduation Year: All]

Law Preview was very helpful. I heavily relied on Don's advice concerning my study schedule, not sweating over a summer internship, and also exam tactics. It was also helpful having the overview of courses. Law Preview gave me an idea of what to expect and confidence . . . I think it was a perfect program. I was skeptical about spending $1,000 on it, but it turned out to be worth every penny.

—Stephen W., New York Law School, Class of 2011

Law Preview gave me a wonderful and literal preview of the doctrines, precedents and methods to expect in law school, bolstering and reigniting my passion for Law as an institution-and further dissuaded me of any fears I may have had about the horrors of 1L. The pace was somewhat grueling, but, well worth it-a good way to prepare for the grind of law school. . . . Special thanks to Professor Martin Flaherty and Professor Alexandra Lahav for Con. Law and Civ. Pro.

—Joseph S., New York Law School, Class of 2012

Law Preview completely prepared me for what was to come. It taught me exactly how to study in order to succeed and gave me tips along the way. Nothing came as a surprise, due to my Law Preview experience, which not only helped boost my confidence, but ensured that I was doing everything I needed to do in order to reach my desired outcome.

—Laurel F., New York Law School, Class of 2012

Law preview was definitely useful in that it stressed the rigors of the first semester to the point that I was prepared. By preparing me for what was to come, as well as setting out effective tips for study and work habits, I was able to to focus on the work itself by adopting what I had learned in Law Preview rather than waste time developing my own strategy. The schedule plan laid out by Law Preview allowed me to achieve academic success during my first semester.

—Joshua V., New York Law School, Class of 2013

I felt much more prepared for the experience. I was already briefing and trying to understand the true context rather than just trying to figure out which was way up, as many of my colleagues were. It was much easier to decipher an opinion after Law Preview. It also helped helped me see the larger picture regarding outlining and seeing the finish line.

—Anonymous, New York Law School, Class of 2013

I am unaware of my rank but I received a 3.78 this semester!!!! Law Preview was AMAZING...I don't think I would have been nearly as prepared for the challenges that I was going to face without this course (as well as another prep course that my law school offered). I would recommend Law Preview to each and every person entering law school! The best $1300 I've ever spent.

—Xan M., New York Law School, Class of 2013

I had been out of school for 15 years, so LP gave me a good look at what I would be facing as well as techniques for studying and keeping up that I had lost since being out of school. The classes gave me an understanding of each course as whole, which helped a great deal in keeping a big picture in mind once I started law school. I managed to keep my head above the minutae, which is very easy to get lost in. The professors I was lucky enough to get at my LP week were phenomenal and it was so great to be introduced to the law by people who clearly loved what they did. It was not easy. It was one of the most intellectually challenging experiences I've ever had, but it made my entry into law school almost seamless and even as I am entering my 2nd semester, I am ever grateful I took it.

—Petal H., New York Law School, Class of 2013

Thanks for your tips, advice, and class. It gave me the tremendous advantage of foresight, the knowledge of how to prepare for my first year, and the grave consequences of the alternative.

—Chris W., New York Law School, Class of 2013

Because law school was somewhat of a last minute decision for me at the end of college, I had no idea what to expect. Law Preview completely changed that. Not only did it give me a little taste of what to expect substantively in classes like Torts and Contracts, but more importantly it geared me towards a year of very hard work and dedication. I can easily say that if it were not for Law Preview I probably would have entered law school with a similar attitude as college, but after taking the week of classes with Law Preview I had a much better idea of how many hours I would have to work a week, what the workload would look like, and what my timeline and goals should look like for the first semester, not to mention how to brief a case. I actually ended up using the Law Preview case brief outline for the entire year (and will continue to use it for the next two years) and felt that I was always extremely prepared for class. Overall, I think it was a great program and I am really glad I participated in it. [Ranked #13 out of 484 students at the end of 1L year].

—Anonymous, New York Law School, Class of 2013

It helped to know right away the type of questions I would be asked and what to take away from the cases I had to read. [Ranked #11 out of 484 students at the end of 1L year].

—Anonymous, New York Law School, Class of 2013

I do not get my class rank until the end of the year, but my GPA is currently 4.07. After attending law preview, I felt still felt nervous, but very prepared for school.I liked that I already had a "plan of attack" before even starting. I definitively felt much more prepared than my classmates.

—Anonymous, New York Law School, Class of 2014

My academic performance as a 1L earned me a spot on the NYU Law Review (where I'm now serving as an Executive Editor) and I truly believe that I couldn't have done it without your course. Thanks Law Preview!

—Sally K., New York University School of Law, Class of 2001

Thanks to Law Preview, my first semester classes felt like a continuation, rather than a beginning. It was the single most important thing I did to bridge the gap between college and law school. . . . I definitely recommend it!

—Gerald K., New York University School of Law, Class of 2001

Although NYU doesn't rank students, I ended the year with a 3.68 GPA, which means I'm in the top few percent (I'm guessing top 2-3%, since there are only around 10 students out of a class of about 450 with a 3.7 or above). One of my professors emailed to tell me I wrote the best exam in her class this spring. How did Law Preview help? Substantively, I don't think it helped that much, just because each class is really what the professor designs it to be, not some core of legal knowledge. However, I do think it was extremely helpful psychologically -- I took law school seriously from the get-go, didn't get behind with reading/ outlining, and had the motivation and stamina (and luck) to do very well, receiving three A's (out of six grades) in my first year. I'm guessing Law Preview is a self-selected group; that is, people who are gung-ho enough to take a class the summer before law school are the same people who are really driven to study hard and do well. I do think that the exam-taking strategies class was extremely helpful -- this is how I approached law school exams and I ended up doing very well. The research/ writing class was probably not quite as helpful, since this is something that takes practice and experience, but it was certainly instructive as an overview. Overall, I wouldn't ascribe my success solely to Law Preview, but I do think it helped calm me down and get me off on the right foot from the very beginning of the year; and it definitely helped when it came to exams. Now that the first year is over, I'm waiting to hear about journals in a few weeks (fingers crossed), and as a result of my GPA, I will have my pick of firms.

—Anonymous, New York University School of Law, Class of 2008

[Law Preview] helped me understand that you need to hit the ground running. it is important to put serious time in and start outlining as soon as possible. While I didnt necessarily follow the advice to a tee, I was happy with how I did and apprecaited getting into the 1st year law school mentality as soon as possible. It really is crazy how much first year matters!!

—Anonymous, New York University School of Law, Class of 2008

I think it made me feel more prepared and comfortable about coming to a top-five law school from a no-name undergraduate school. And I think it was actually quite helpful to have an overall road map of each first year course sort of in the back of your mind. But to tell you the truth, I think what people get out of it most is all the anecdotes and the advice about law firms, journals, groups, exams, etc that just make you feel less confused and more geared up and prepared for the coming year.

—Anonymous, New York University School of Law, Class of 2009

Good overview of course topics, however Law Preview most importantly provided a great intro. to the homework and readings that you will face. It was friendly introduction to the Socratic method, and a great confidence boost going into the semester.

—Jascha C., New York University School of Law, Class of 2012

Law Preview really helped me prepare for my first year of law school. Going into NYU Law, I was a bit nervous; I had heard about how daunting the first year of law school could be and had no idea what I was getting myself into. Law Preview really exposed me to what to expect during my first year and how best to schedule my time, organize myself, and maintain a calm composure that really helped me not only succeed in my first year of law school but enjoy my time. I think that is perhaps the most important part -- beyond succeeding in school -- is learning how best to enjoy it. Having been introduced to and somewhat familiar with the first year curriculum and having experienced the amazing faculty that the Law Preview program offers, I really got to enjoy my first year in ways that my peers did not.

—Alex, New York University School of Law, Class of 2012

It provided a good idea of what to expect. Nothing is as good as actually going through the real experience but it provided a template by which a student feels comfortable following in what can be a sea of uncertainty.

—Anonymous, New York University School of Law, Class of 2014

HUGELY beneficial, particular in terms of time management and expectations. I remained much calmer during finals than my peers did and it showed in my grades!
