McGuireWoods is a global law firm with approximately 900 lawyers and 19 strategically located offices worldwide. Sharply focused on our clients, McGuireWoods ensures that all of the firm's actions are based on what will best benefit our clients. Tracing the firm's roots back to 1834, McGuireWoods has a long history of growth through mergers with predecessor firms in existing markets, as well as client-centered expansion into new markets. Working with clients to develop these strategies, we are able to keep pace with their changing needs -- helping them meet their goals. This has been our philosophy for more than 175 years, and it continues to direct our endeavors as we look toward the future.
As stated in our 2010-2012 Strategic Plan, "For us to achieve our destiny, diversity and inclusion must be woven into our very fabric." At McGuireWoods, we define diversity as recognizing and valuing the differences in our workforce. Chairman Emeritus Robert L. Burrus Jr. chairs the firm's Diversity Committee -- an exemplification of McGuireWoods' commitment to diversity. Our lawyers and staff work to promote diversity throughout the legal profession and in our communities. McGuireWoods saw the value of diversifying its legal team decades ago. As early as 1977, we initiated a joint venture with a minority-owned law firm. Today, we continue to receive numerous awards for our diversity efforts.
While we understand that a diverse legal profession is extremely important, we also appreciate that without proper preparation most students find the law school experience overwhelming and extremely difficult to earn top grades. That is why McGuireWoods decided to sponsor scholarships to Law Preview's law school prep course -- a program that some of our most successful lawyers took before they themselves entered law school.
McGuireWoods Law Preview Scholarship Criteria
To be eligible to become a McGuireWoods Law Preview Scholarship recipient, applicants must be enrolled to begin classes at Notre Dame Law School or University of Virginia School of Law in the fall.
In keeping with our firm's commitment to improving diversity in the legal profession, preference will be given to applicants who are members of a racial/ethnic group which has been historically underrepresented in the legal profession or members of the LGBT community. Applications will be accepted now until May 28.
A selection panel will evaluate all completed applications, and scholarship recipients will be notified via email by June 11.
