Richard Alderman

Dean Alderman, has taught at the University of Houston Law Center since 1973 where he currently holds the Dwight Olds Chair in Law and serves as the director of the Consumer Law Project, a community outreach arm of the Law Center. He earned his B.A. from Tulane University in 1968 and attended Syracuse University Law School where he was graduated first in his class. After a year practicing poverty law with a legal service office, he attended the University of Virginia Law School and was awarded a Masters of Law degree. In addition to teaching, Dean Alderman also appears regularly as the "People's Lawyer" on radio, television and the newspaper. He currently appears on Houston's KTRK-TV, Channel 13. He works with the Texas Young Lawyers Association on a program entitled "It's the Law," which is currently syndicated to TV stations in thirteen Texas cities. Professor Alderman has twice received the highest honor given by the American Bar Association and the State Bar of Texas for his work in educating the public about the law. In 1999 the Mayor and City Council of Houston declared October 16th as Richard Alderman day in recognition of his contribution to the city. In 2007, UH honored Dean Adlerman with its Teaching Excellence Award.
